- Focus on QUALITY of movement versus QUANTITY of movement. Four repetitions of an exercise performed correctly versus 10 repetitions of an exercise performed without control or precision--what's the point?
- Learn to breathe correctly. Breathing correctly enhances Pilates exercises and allows for better control and performance.
- Educate yourself on proper control and use of the CORE...not just the "six pack". The core includes the pelvic floor muscles, transversus abdominis, multifidus, internal and external obliques, rectus abdominis, erector spinae, the diaphragm, latissimus dorsi, gluteus maximus, and trapezius. All of these muscles must work together to properly develop the body's core.
- Cross-training is ENCOURAGED. Joseph Pilates designed his workout regime (originally called "Contrology") to achieve a balanced body and sound mind. All of the equipment: mat, reformer, cadillac, chair, barrels, small apparatus like the foot corrector & ped-a-pull are designed to be used together to achieve RESULTS.
